The Microsoft Student Partner Program recognizes top young minds from around the world who are passionate about technology. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to develop real-world skills to help you succeed in your future career, to help others learn about the technology of today and tomorrow, and to connect with other like-minded students, all whilst having a ton of fun along the way. The program is our way of encouraging students who are interested in building a closer relationship with Microsoft, and those who are simply hooked on technology, to develop their skills further.

What is an Microsoft Student Partner?
The ‘ideal candidate’ for an MSP would be a passionate and enthusiast individual who wants to learn about new tools and technologies. You would need to have a whole range of skills including excellent time management, organization and communication skills to ensure that you could host a successful campus launch event. An MSP should be comfortable and confident presenting in front of large audiences of both students and faculty members. You may even be asked to present in front of your fellow MSP's at an event. General business and sales skills come in very handy in order to allow you to articulate your ideas effectively when presenting. MSP's are social able, friendly and approachable individuals who like to meet new people. You will require the ability work as a team as well as use your own initiative. In summary, MSP's are innovative and creative students who are extremely passionate about technology. Being an MSP is a privileged and honored status for any student. In addition to the benefits listed above, the MSP Program is designed to help you get the most out of Microsoft tools and technologies, develop your skills and give you a head start in the ‘real world’ once you graduate and enter the IT industry.

How to become a Microsoft Student Partner?

Apply to the Microsoft Student Partners program associated with the country you live in. You must follow the specific instructions for applying to the Microsoft Student Partners program for you country. We will then review all the submitted applications and select the brightest and most innovative student developers and technology enthusiasts from universities across your country. If successful, you will have unique access to a Private Community Portal where MSP's can find out the latest news, events, resources, and forums as well as a whole host of useful tools. You'll be encouraged to share your passion and knowledge and to undertake a huge range of fun activities on-campus. In return, you'll get access to numerous benefits - including Microsoft software, reference materials and training as well as privileged information about future career opportunities. The activities can range from handing out leaflets and putting up posters around campus to hosting a campus launch event on new Microsoft tool or technology. Each activity carries a set number of points and you will be awarded points based on the quality of the evidence you submit with the activity. Throughout the year, you will receive massive amount s of training and support from Microsoft. These can be in the form of online training, resources and materials. Also, there will be the opportunity to attend multiple MSP events at different locations where you will learn about the new tools and technologies, meet Microsoft employees and even get some really cool surprises!

If your application is successful, you will be awarded Student Partner (MSP) status for one academic year from July to June end. During this time you can refer to yourself as a Microsoft Student Partner and act as an official representative of Microsoft at your college/university. Being an MSP demands dedication. We encourage every MSP to undertake many activities and numerous voluntary activities throughout the year which are designed to suit everyone's level of ability and creativity. Activities range from giving technical lectures on campus, writing articles for the student newsletter to entering the Imagine Cup or running your own computer club or society.

You'll be part of the amazing Nepalese MSPs team, with lots of opportunities to learn, plan, interact with students from different universities and countries and help other students in Nepal realizing their full potential and having fun. Microsoft Innovation Centre Nepal (MIC Nepal) will recognize your efforts and each activity you undertake.

Who can apply?

In order to be eligible for the award, you must be:
  1. Over 18
  2. An undergraduate or post-graduate student at an eligible university
  3. Technical reps: Studying a full-time computer science-related degree or course and able to name a reference from your department or Microsoft.
  4. Passionate about technology and willing to share your expertise with others at your school.

Applications deadline for academic year 2014/15 is June 30, 2014

Application Process:

  1. You need to fill up this application form online.
  2. Printed application form with your photo also needs to be submitted to our office along with the application costs of NPR 1,000.
  3. An acknowledgement email will be sent to you within a week of your application to the Orientation Program at MIC Nepal if you are in an academic institution around Kathmandu and within a month if you are in an academic institution outside of Kathmandu. At the orientation, you have to come with a letter of recommendation to be an MSP from your college. All additional details of the process and the procedures to be an MSP would be detailed during the presentations at the orientation. At this time the following kit will be handed over to each and every applicant who are invited to the orientation. Not all the applicants will be invited to the orientation.

  4. The orientation will be a full date event. Within 7 days of the orientation, you will be asked to upload a video to Facebook as per the instructions provided at the Orientation.
  5. Please do not wait for the last day to submit your application since we will be screening the applicants as the applications come in and we will be doing Orientation Programs on a weekly basis. We will only be accepting fifty (50) applications on the last week so there might be a cut-off for your last day submission. The last date of submission of your application is June 30, 2014.

  • Orientation Programs:                            Weekly depending upon the number of applicants·         Interviews:                                              Various dates for only serious candidates only. Interviews may be over the phone or in face to face at the MIC Nepal Office. Not everyone will be called for a face to face interview.
  • Final list of MSPs published:                  July 12, 2014 an SMS will be sent to your mobile phone.


Microsoft Student Partner Nepal Application FAQs

How do I make the payment for the application?

There is a cost of NPR 1,000 that you need to submit in cash along with your application. You have to go to Microsoft Innovation Center Nepal office located in Khichapokhari, New Road and hand it over personally along with your application form duly filled and signed that should have your picture and the endorsement from your college.

When will the orientation program be held?


Does the form have to be hand written?

In the last cycle of the recruitment of MSPs, it was clear that a lot of forms were copied, we encourage you to fill out the form in the most legible and clear handwriting.


Can I submit the form electronically?

The Application Form has to be handed over IN PERSON to the Microsoft Innovation Center Nepal office. If you are away from Kathmandu, then you can get special permission to be submitted electronically as well.


What are the tips for me to get selected as MSP?

The first tip is that if you try to use any ‘source force’ or influence, then you get disqualified in the selection process. We are looking for people who are consistent, shows leadership qualities, who can persevere and can also learn new products and technologies fast.


If I have questions whom do I ask?

Does each college have 2 MSPs as in the past and is it still one male and one female?

We will try to ensure that this continues however it all depends on the number of applications that we receive.


Will Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certifications help in being an MSP?

Definitely will be an added benefit when the selection is being done.  We always do respect students who have displayed their technical competencies with their certifications.
